International Consolidated Airlines Group has announced changes in leadership positions within the company. Marco Sansavini will take over as the head of group airline Iberia, while Carolina Martinoli will step into the role of chief executive at Vueling starting in April.
Marco Sansavini to Lead Iberia
As part of the restructuring, Marco Sansavini will lead the Spanish flag carrier Iberia, replacing interim CEO Fernando Candela. Candela will continue as CEO of the company's Level airline.
Carolina Martinoli's New Role at Vueling
Carolina Martinoli will transition from her current position as IAG's chief people, corporate affairs, and sustainability officer to serve as the new CEO of Vueling. She will also take on the role of chair at Vueling.
Focus on Spanish Businesses
IAG highlighted the strong performance of its Spanish businesses, including Iberia, Vueling, and Level. The company sees opportunities in Europe's growing traffic to Latin America and the intra-European aviation market. It plans to further invest in Level, which has expanded its network to Latin America from Barcelona.
Positive Financial Results
Earlier on Thursday, IAG reported a significant increase in net profit for 2023 due to robust travel demand. The group, which includes British Airways and Aer Lingus, remains optimistic about future growth opportunities.
At 1410 GMT, IAG shares were trading slightly lower at 151.30 pence.
